    Default Heritage pistol?

Anyone have one? What do you think? I just want something to carry with me on the trail or as a teaching tool. Thinking about the 22lr/22winmag model with the birds head grip @ 4.75 inch.

    So, good, bad, fug ugly?

    Thank-you.

I don't care for the bird's head grip style myself, but I've had one of these in the past (now passed to my son), and it was a solid piece. Wouldn't hesitate to own another one.

Personally, I don't care for the bird's head either, but I have had the Rough Rider .22/22 mag. combo with the 6.5" barrel for about six years and have put hundreds of rounds through it with no problems. I paid $185 for it back then but it is the model with the painted alloy receiver. You can get an all steel version for a few bucks more. If I had it to do over, I would buy the one with the 4.75" barrel. Granted, it will never be a Ruger Single Six, but I think that the cocobolo grips are very nice and for the money I think it is a good deal. Just my opinion with what I have experienced with it.

Dad has two of them. One rough rider in .22lr/mag and one with the birds head grip in .32 mag. He loves them. Personally I prefer my single six to the rough rider. Fit and finish is way higher on the ruger. I've shot both of them plenty of times though and both are solid firearms. The fixed sights on the .32 were off a little, he uses Kentucky windage since it's more of a range toy. It could be fixed with a file if one wanted however.

Thank-you all for the replies. Guess I'll head over to the Monroeville show and see if I can hold one. No, not going to buy unless the price is right, there are still a few vendors I buy from who are good guys in an ocean of sharks.
