    Default SIG 1911

I have heard that the early Sig GSR model 1911's had issues.
Have they gotten better, and when ?

This one looks particularly nice as a CC piece:

I know a few people who have them.

    My opinion is as follows;

Great functioning 1911 variant. It will eat everything that its given with an unequivocal continuum.

There are no MIM parts! This really is a bonus if you buy into the internet hype that MIM parts will break with monotony. In the real world they don't but not having them is still nice.

Accuracy is decent. For what you will pay it is equal to or better than most in its class.

Finish is top notch and should last you a good time if taken care of.

    My only qualm...
It just doesn't look like a 1911 to me.
It looks like a long slide sig. I know it functions the same as any 1911, and it is styled like a 1911 but to me it looks like a sig.

All and all great gun and if you are not looking for the classic colt lines than by all means buy it and lets go shooting!

I purchased my GSR about 6 months ago or more.. cant remember. I have not had a single problem with it. The only thing I don't like about it, is the adjustable sights. Other than that its been fantastic.

I have the exact GSR that you have pictured. I have never had a problem with it, and I have nothing bad to say about it. I would buy it again.

I was excited when SIG announced they were going to offer a 1911. I thought finally, swiss - german engineering applied to a mass produced, semi custom 1911.

If anyone could pull it off, they could. And they had a good guy leading it's development. Unfortunately, SIG marketing stuck their noses into it.

I'm sure some people have specimens that run well but I'm disappointed with the end result.

Something happened to my last post. I have a correction to make. I have the full size 1911, not the compact.

    Hopefully this post will remain.

I carry one everyday. I've trained hard with it, it's never malfed on me.

I did change a few things on it though, extended thumb safety, EGW stainless bushing, nighthawk magwell and VZ Alien grips.

I don't know what people mean by "it doesn't look like a 1911", though

My GSR... (old pic - laser grips are gone)

I read an article about them when they first came out.

They purposefully incorporated sig stylings into the 1911 shape so you could tell it's a sig just by looking at it.

Personally, I think it's sharp. Not like a colt, but sharp. My main qualm with the sigs has always been the DA/SA trigger. I hate it. A single action Sig seems like it'd be one badass pistol.

    Well said.
    I can't agree more.
I know its supposed to work like 1911, and it does.
But somehow, it feel different. It feel like a Sig. Plus I just don't care for the external extractor(I understand it works, and supposed to be best compromise between cost/performance yada yada..)
It does look like as if P220 was to go through total redesign, it would look like them IMO.

Ofcourse, I have Sig, and they are one hell of gun. So just because it feel like long slided sig does not necessary mean a bad thing...
