Default Re: Classic Pistol: Concealed Carry Firearms Permit Class March 4th

It would. I am planning on treating myself to a nice Glock 30 once Uncle Sam comes though with my refund. After trying out alot of different types of handguns, I really did well with it and liked it quite alot.

So, of course the logical thing would be to get the PA permit.

But, this caught my eye and I started thinking about it not being a bad idea to take the class since I've never had any "formal" training. But, I've fired shotguns, various rifles, various handguns, etc.

Plus, Classic Pistol is 3.5 miles from my house and it would be easy for me to attend since it's on a Sunday.

BTW, in addition to the price of the class you still gotta kick up the $117 that Florida gets for a 5-year permit.
I don't have a LTCF yet and joined to get information.

Ok, it's good to make your motives clear. If you want training, then you can get a lot more training for the buck than this event. This event will give you a little training, but also incur all the other expenses involved in getting the FLA permit: $85 for the event plus $117 for the FLA fee.

For that same money, you can get a lot more training, for example that same beginner class AND CP's all-day "Concealed Carry" course. Or any number of multiple-day courses at local ranges.

But if you don't mind the cash, it's not a bad start, and the FLA CCW is a nice side-benefit (although not too much use to you until you get the PA CCW).

I agree. And after finding this, I figured out there would be little benefit for me since I didn't get the PA permit yet. I probably will end up taking their Concealed Carry course. My father took it there when he got his permit to carry a while back.

I would still take a basic course first anyway, before the CP Concealed Carry class. Note that the CP Concealed Carry class will have you doing a little bit of dynamic shooting -- shooting from behind cover, reloading, dim light shooting, etc. So you'd probably want some basic carry gear lined up and practiced with first.

    I personally would recommend:

    1. Apply now for PA CCW (no reason to wait...let it be percolating in the background while the rest happens).

    2. Take basic safety class (the CP one for the FLA permit is not bad for this purpose...you don't need to actually send in the application, but IMO it's $117 well spent).

    3. Buy a gun.

    4. Take in a few range sessions with it.

    5. Get some basic carry gear: holster plus mag carrier.

    6. Take the CP Concealed Carry course.

    7. More practice; more training; repeat.

ETA: here's a thread with PA training ideas:

I would be all over this if it weren't for the date. That is the loml's b-day and there is no way that I could get away with spending the day in training. Oh, well. Guess I'll just have to wait for the next one.

KEWL! Thanks for the link Delta... I'm going to have to keep going back to see when I'll be able to take their course!

According to the website it's for the Florida non-res permit.

I think I will probably take this class and go for the Florida non-res after I get my PA permit, just for the sake of having it.
