Default Told to leave gun in car at walmart for CC

Just got in from walmart where management told me that the law requires me to leave my gun in my car when entering a "family place." I corrected him on that, but that was the only point where I handled myself good. They "knew" I had a CC weapon on me because someone who knows me through a friend of mine who she doesnt like claimed that she saw my gun and it scared her, even though she was standing just behind their loss prevention manager smiling the whole time he was talking to me.

I handled myself badly. When he stated that guns make some people nervous because of all the shootings in the news I never even thought before responding that "every one of them was a nutjob walking into a place that doesnt allow people to carry guns."

Contact Walmart corporate. They will call and straighten the store out. They will at least let you cc. I saw a response from another site from walmart corp, but can't seem to locate it at this time.

The last time someone told me to leave my gun in the car, I asked them how they would feel of my car was broken into and the gun was stolen because I was reckless enough to leave it in a relatively insecure location and unattended.

Default Wal-Mart CC & OC "policy shift"

    Hello Evolution / all ...

Seems W/M policy has been morphing a bit over the past year or so.
It simply may not have made it to your area yet.

Up until a little over a year ago, corporate edict out of the home office in Bentonville, AR was to allow CC & OC if not unlawful in that state (if statewide pre-emption exists or a statute endorsing CC and / or OC exists) or to allow CC & OC if not unlawful per the County or municipality that the store is located in (where pre-emption is not in place).

This has gradually been changing towards a W/M policy of allowing "local" intrepretation by regional store management.

Why? Could be for many reasons, changing political regimes (or the threat of them - "What Choice - 08"), desire to place stores in non-firearm friendly areas or political climes, and BATFE difficulties faced by the chain in some regions quickly come to mind. (Due to sheer volume, Wal-Mart has a BATFE agent assigned full time to their primary shipping and warehousing location in Arkansas).

I am from PA but have a second home in Virginia, near VA Tech.
Individual stores in the area briefly enforced their own policies / discretion for a time after the Tech incident. Now, the 5 stores nearest my home there are split between 2 regions and have 2 separate policies.

Best response to an establishment that doesnt want me there, OC or CC?
A polite letter to the management, copied as a letter to the editor of the local paper, detailing the legality of CC / OC or the permit process (training, background checks, typical permit holder demographics) AND copies of receipts for what I spent at similar business for approx 10 days.
