    Default Range options in MontCo

I am an Ambler local, but a Phila student. Although I perfer Phila Gun and Archery (which has the best indoor range in the region in my opinion), I would like to know what is available in the county. I have been to Target World in Chalfont, which sucks, and Classic Pistol, which is a bit of a drive from the Ambler area. Any other suggestions? I would also like to shoot outdoors, however I don't know of any outdoor ranges in the area.

BTW: I know that the MONTCO fire academy/police academy recently addded a $10mil shooting range that the police rave about. Anyone hear about the possibility for civilian use?

Where DO people in montco go...

I've only ever went to french creek outfitters but tend to find the people that shoot there a little unsafe (and extremely innaccurate). There's just so few places to go.

I belong to Lower Providence Rod and Gun Club in Audubon PA (www.LPRGC.org)

Indoor Range open early AM to LATE PM hours (7am to 11pm I believe)
    good People there.

They do have some joining requirements that some balk at. I did not find it to be so oppressive.

Others have used Kimberton. I do not have any experience with that range.

+1 on Montco Fire Acad....Public Safety use only. I have a few friends that are members of LPRG, they speak highly of it.

I like Wicen's but you would probably think it's too far if you already think Classic is too far. I like it because I prefer to be outside if possible and indoor ranges suck for shooting rifles.
You can never have enough horsepower or ammunition.

+1 for Wicen's. Bonus there is that it's a flat fee per visit - $15. If you only go a few times per year, it's the bet bet. Make a day of it and shoot all day.

If you shoot a lot outside, then one of the other clubs is a better bet. I like Langhorne Rod and Gun, but that could be bit of a haul too. Technically I guess these are Bucks county ranges.

Was a member of Kimberton for 25 years. Nice club, small membership, friendly people, and nice facilities. And oh yes, no jumping thru hoops to join. Web site can be found thru search for Kimberton Fish and Game.

I'm an Ambler guy too, but the only place I really go is Ridge and Valley way the hell out in Coopersburg. I like it because it's pretty much empty during the week, and everyone I've run into has been pretty friendly.
When I was little, we would target shoot, and hunt on my grandfathers farm, but then a snooty neighborhood got build next to it, and y'all know how that goes

Give Lower Providence Rod & Gun Club a try. Here's what you have to do to join. Attend two meetings (1st Tues. of each month), attend an orientation session (starts at 7PM on the 2nd. Thur. of each month) and participate in a four hour work party. Not alot of "hoops". Once a member there are no charges for using the ranges. Must exhibit safe gun handling skills and shoot a basic qualification (9 of 10 shots on a 8.5"x11" target @ 30 ft.) before using ranges.
