Online training not acceptable for Utah CCW license.
In light of Virginia revoking reciprocity with PA and many other states, I decided to get a Utah CCW license. One requirement is taking an approved gun handling course. I am willing to do that so I checked out the Utah licensing site to see what “approved” meant. They supply a very thorough list (by states) of approved instructors. Problem is that finding one in SEPA that is going to have a course is a real problem. So I searched the Internet for that information. That is when I found that there were courses being offered online that claimed to meet the Utah requirements for a Utah license.
I had not seen online options at the Utah website so i began to wonder if online was acceptable. I emailed the Utah Bureau of Criminal Identification which issues licenses. This is the answer I received:
“You will need to take the Utah permit class in person. Utah does not honor any online courses. You must have the actual instructor stamp on the form which can only be given in person.”
I post this to inform others who might be looking for a course and come upon one of the several sites that assure its online course qualifies under Utah regulations.
Beware!

Let me know if you find a course. I think I would be interested in taking it also.

Delaware Valley Sports Center just had a Utah CCW class. Call them, they might schedule a new one soon.
