    Default Shotgun Advice

My son is considering buying a Remington 870 tactical shotgun:

How does it compare to the Mossberg 500?

My main areas of concern are reliability, and the options to add full length stocks and different barrels (for clays or hunting).

How hard is it to control with only the pistol grip? I want him to have a versatile platform.

    Thanks.

    Chocolate or Vannila?
My opinion these BOTH are superb basic pump shotguns, Having owned both, I sold my Mossy to my younger brother in the 1990s to pay for my Remmy. He's still go it, But to me the pistol grips are always harder to control, a full stock is better. Barrel selection and availability for the Mssy might be an issue with the extended magazine. The original mossbergs had the screw and screw holders as an integral part of the barrel.

I'm a mossy guy, I have several. That said either one is good and will serve anyone well in my experience.

As for pistol grips, they look cool, but aren't really that practical for most applications. I would go with a pistol griped stock if he wants to keep it tacticool. Go with one with a collapsible stock and you get the best of both worlds.
