Default Carry with DAO, no safety?

A question, or a poll. Who here doesn't feel comfortable carrying a firearm with no safety except for the DOA trigger? Who feels fine with it, and why?

I'd like to carry a very small deep-concealed pistol, but I'm leery of carrying one with no safety. Seems all of the very small pistols are DOA only no safety. I am a newbie, and I think I might blow my nads off reholstering, or worse! (can't think of much worse, but you get the idea.)

Yes, I guess I could carry with chamber empty, but I think that leaves one quite vulnerable in case of sudden attack.

    Hmmm.

    1) Keep finger off trigger while reholstering.
    2) Keep clothing, etc clear while reholstering
    3) Don't place holster above 'nads'.

    Your nads should be fine

I used to carry a KelTec P32 - DAO, no safety.

Always kept one in the pipe, in a pocket holster, and I never had an issue.

I think that as long as the trigger is protected, you are "safe"

I carry a SA, but have carried DAO. Either is fine with me.

For the pocket pistol - you holster it PRIOR to putting it in your pocket. No chance of blowing your nads off. Unholster like you would with any gun - trigger finger on the slide until you're on target. Still no chance of blowing your nads off.

My pocket or deep concealment guns are both DA with a long 12 lb triggers. the Tomcat has a safety but I don't use it. The J frame doesn't. Use care when holstering and you'll be fine.

    Finger off the trigger.

I have 4 DAO semis that have no safeties. Choose a holster that covers the trigger/ guard completely.

Safety or not, it will not go off without your help.

DAO, in chamber, safety off is perfectly safe. That's a hell of a long pull with a lot of pressure. I generally prefer single action, safety off, but there is a little bit of mental tension involved.

When I first went to carry this set up. I too was a bit uneasy. But actually, going to IDPA and USPSA shoots made me realize that the pistol isn't going off unless I want it too. I know carry with total confidence.

Okay, it seems that everyone is fine so far with DAO only. No one posted that they're afraid, (maybe they're afraid to look afraid?)

My main concern was the trigger getting snagged by a shirt or something, or someone going for the gun, and catching the trigger. I recently read about a guy who had an accidental discharge because the shirt got caught in the holster or something.

Thanks for all the responses. I think the family jewels would be relatively safe.
