Re: How to transport an AR?
Never transport a loaded long gun.
Ammo separate for sure. Stop? You have it locked up?Gunowner99 - NRA Benefactor Life Member

Re: How to transport an AR?
Yes. Loaded in magazines in a separate container is OK. Rifle unloaded.
No, you can transport an unloaded long gun to and fro within reason.
AR Pistols and SBRs require an LTCF to transport without stopping as they fall under the "firearm" (restricted) provisions. Caveat is you can carry them completely loaded if you'd like with LTCF.
These definitions of the weapons requiring extra transport considerations are still current IIRC
“FIREARM.” Any pistol or revolver with a barrel length less than 15 inches, any shotgun with a barrel length less than 18 inches or any rifle with a barrel length less than 16 inches, or any pistol, revolver, rifle or shotgun with an overall length of less than 26 inches. The barrel length of a firearm shall be determined by measuring from the muzzle of the barrel to the face of the closed action, bolt or cylinder, whichever is applicable.Last edited by Splittiebus66; October 28th, 2015 at 08:46 PM.

Re: How to transport an AR?
Go unloaded. PA defines unloaded as no loaded chamber, no loaded mag inserted or in same container.
That's pretty much all you have to worry about for transporting long guns.

Re: How to transport an AR?
Also within reason means don't take your AR riding next to you, doing burnouts at 8th and Tioga in North Philly etc.

Re: How to transport an AR?
The best method is to do what the professional do when transporting. Just toss it on your trunk.
Rules are written in the stone,
Break the rules and you get no bones,
all you get is ridicule, laughter,
and a trip to the house of pain.
