AAR: Active Threat Countermeasures
July 31st - August 2nd, 2015

Friday evening began with a risk brief and legal paperwork including non-disclosure agreements due to the sensitive nature of the material. We began evaluating base skills, and then focused specifically on marksmanship.

Once we were satisfied, we changed our focus to gun handling, and then ran confidence drills to ensure all students "were on the same page" regarding a 360 degree shooting environment.

Saturday began with a risk review leading to analysis of "typical" active threats and their psychology, motivations, likely armament, and M.O.

We covered cues and effective countermeasures, followed by live fire reinforcement. Saturday ended with individual force-on-force Evolution #1.

Sunday began with a review of FoF Evo #1, in addition to our standard risk review. Discussion turned to analysis of "atypical" active threats, and their psychology, motivations, likely armament, and M.O. - with distinctions from alternately motivated threats.

We covered cues and countermeasures, followed by live fire reinforcement. Sunday ended with individual force-on-force evolution #2 and our final debrief.

This was a group of highly skilled and experienced shooters. The entire class was shot from concealment, and gun and gear issues were minimal.

It can sometimes be cliche to mention students being "pushed out of their comfort zones", but the active threat scenario we were training for demanded it - the students rose to the occasion.
