Re: The Punisher: War Zone
Looks awesome! A little cheesy but still a thousand times better than the first two, which were major disappointments.

I'm confused....Is this related to the Punisher movie that starred Tom Jane? I liked that movie.

Re: The Punisher: War Zone
No, it looks like they took the original Punisher storyline, also the one used by the MAX comics. Instead of the family reunion crap Frank's family is killed in a cross fire in Central Park during a mob shooting.
They seem to have confused gritty and dark with hyper violence. Not the same, they need real character development. Not to say that the MAX books aren't violent, but its not so much the violence, as how and why it is used.
The thing that is hard to translate to movies is the constant internal monologue that Frank Castle has. He really is a mad dog loose on the world, he knows it for the most part. He uses it, and controls it when he can. He usually just chooses to deny what he has become and focus solely on the task at hand of destroying as many evil people as possible.
Watching people's heads explode doesn't count as making the Punisher dark. The writing in the MAX books by Garth Ennis was awesome, its the reason the Punisher came back to life if you will. I just wish someone would take a real hard look at it and try to figure out how to get that sort of stuff into a movie. It could be really good.
I hope this one is at least pretty good so that maybe someone will take another crack at it.
EDIT I forgot too. The Punisher is at least believable in the books he plans stuff normally and sets up escape routes and thinks tactically. He doesn't hang off of chandilers and spin in circles, that kinda pissed me off. Oh and I'll see it for sure at least once in the theaters no matter how much I complain onlineLast edited by Wasz; July 31st, 2008 at 04:28 PM.
