LTCF Application in Allegheny County?

Last year when I renewed my LTCF, I mailed the application in and my daughter did the same when she applied for her first one. Looking at the Sheriff's website, it now says that you must apply in person. When did this start and why?

When they started the new system/software they need to take your picture every time.

The "new" system is several years old at this point. Didn't they just previously take the picture and print the license once the application was approved?

Before you would receive a post card in the mail when your application cleared to go get your picture and license at the Sheriff's Office. Now the whole thing is done at the Sheriff's office in a single visit.

Get there early. The lines can be pretty bad and the process is not very efficient.

Yep. I would go in with my yellow card, give the guy my $20 and my DL, he'd take my picture and I'd leave. Bada-bing! Easy-peasy.

Now it sounds like I have to go stand in line, apply, wait while they run the check, stand in line again, get my picture taken and then leave. Sounds simple to me.

How'd you lose 17 seconds between tellings? Next time will it be 6:30?

I don't suppose that I have to worry about it for four more years. I just worry any time the government says that they've made simpler.

The new system started somewhere between Feb and May 2015 based off of these two threads.

You always had to pick up your LTCF in person, now you don't have to mail in the App. This means you don't wait a week for them to process it.

Sorry, I misunderstood. I was referring to the new physical systems (computers, cameras, printers) for producing LTCFs which were distributed to every issuing authority several years ago.

The Allegheny County Sheriff is taking it on the road and issuing permits at satellite locations starting I believe in October. The first one will be in Elizabeth Twp. If there is enough interest they will be doing more of this at other locations to save people the hassle of going downtown.
