Default Good day at the range with my 5 1/2 y.o. son

Took my 5 1/2 year old son to the range again yesterday and he had a great time. I've had him out there to shoot at least a couple times a week all summer, and he's graduated from a Cricket to a 10/22 with a Tapco stock to yesterday he ran thru three mags with my AR.

Pretty good sized boy, and yesterday he was able to hold, support, and shoot my AR. He can sometimes hit 2 liter soda bottles at 100 yards with his Cricket and 10/22, and regularly hit old snuff cans at 50 yards with them. Scope on the Cricket and red dot on the 10/22.

I have a good stash of .22lr but the amount he shoots is gonna have me back on the hunt for it again soon!

I had started out both my kids on a small 22 and birdshot vs balloons for the quick entertainment thing.
My oldest still thinks I am an ammo depot ................... well only to a point.

I taught my son to shoot when he was 5 years old. He is now old enough to buy his own ammo. He'll be 21 this coming Sunday.

Taking kids out early and teaching them good fundamentals is a good thing. My daughter has been shooting since she was four. She's pretty good, but she's told me that she doesn't like shooting anymore. I hope it's a phase because she really is good at it.

If you need .22lr to take your son shooting, hit me up, I have a ton and would gladly help out a father.

Shooting at 4-5 with my dad is one of my earliest and fondest memories.

Thanks for the offer but I'm good until the weather gets too nasty to shoot. Maybe even beyond. I was up to around 14k until he really got in to shooting this summer. I quit shooting when I take him to kinda conserve ammo. A guy can really burn thru it with two 10/22's running!

At about $9 per 30 round mag I'll be saving his AR shooting for special occasions!
