    Default 629-5?

How do you guys feel about the smith 629-5? I originally had my heart set on s 629-4 5" classic, but recently ce across a -5. Thoughts? Still a prelock so it's good or not so much?
    Thanks,
    Dan

Round butt frame mounted firing pin MIM hammer. Buy it. Nothing wrong with it. You are going to shoot it right?

If you won't think, even if this -5 is a fine example of a quality revolver, that you should have bought a -4 go for it. If you're still going to be looking for a -4 I'd say pass though and wait for one to come up.

I just hate the new lock models...as long as it's still a quality gun I'm sure I'll be happy.

It a quality gun. I still buy the new guns. Some like the 69 don't have a past model. I don't love lock but I have more love for revolvers than hate of the lock. The pin being on the hammer is only viable whe cocked. Both kinds can break on occasion so it's just a look thing. The internal lock can cause a locked up gun. It never happened to me, so far. I wish it would go away. It does change the out line of the gun. More of the hammer gets covered up. Buy it and don't look back. It will increase in value. All smith and Wesson revolvers will. Eventually they will stop making them. I hope it's a long long way off.

Check out the smith-Wesson forum, there are guys who make plugs for the locks.
Go head, skin it. Skin that smoke wagon and see what happens.

Thanks for the feedback guys, I bought the gun, should have it next week. I figured if I end up not loving it or if I find a -4 in the future I like I can always buy it and sell this one. Iv been looking for over a year and only a small handful came up, ironically 2 last week. Both went for 1200 plus. Anyway I'll post some pics when it gets here.

The 629-5 does not have the "infernal lock". The lock made it's debut of the 629-6. The -5 did away with the firing pin in the hammer
