The city is in the midst of a spike in murders that has brought it to nearly 30 percent above the same time last year and is on pace to reach 145 by the end of the year, a six-year high.
Washington, D.C., which has some of the most restrictive gun laws in the country, has banned high capacity magazines, or those that can carry more than 10 rounds.
Lanier said recent pushes to ban high capacity magazines by states around the country scared people into purchasing large quantities of the magazines, and somehow they are flooding onto the streets in D.C., where they are banned.
Lanier also attributed the city’s recent murder spike to repeat offenders who have recently been released from prison obtaining weapons and then using them to murder people.
“Multiple of our offenders involved in the homicides have previous homicides and are recently back in the community,” she said. “So far this year 10 people involved in homicide have had prior homicide charges. Ten.”
Federal law prohibits anyone convicted of a felony from owning or possessing a firearm, yet somehow more than 10 percent of the murders in the city so far this year were committed by felons.
“What we’re seeing is violent offenders that are committing shootings and homicides that have multiple violent offenses,” Lanier said. “The number of guns recovered this year and last year are both up.”
Washington, D.C., has a “may issue” handgun licensing policy, meaning it is very difficult for city residents to obtain a license to carry a handgun. In a time of universal deceit, telling the truth is a revolutionary act. George Orwell

I don't think there has been any uptick in the manufacture of the standard-capacity magazines, beyond the possible uptick in the manufacture of handguns.
I also don't think the criminals are gonna spend more than half a brain cell on the thought of tracking down a low-capacity magazine so they can break one less law.

The uptick in homicides in major cities around the country is totally due to the Black Lives Matter movement, and the absolute fear of the police to enforce the law because they will be crucified in the media if the shoot a black person, armed or not. The media promotes the hands up don't shoot LIE, and police know the truth no longer matters. The criminals know this and are now embolden. It won't stop until the mood of the country shifts to enforcing the law.

Most violent crimes are committed by repeat offenders mostly in cities run by Democrats.
71% of gunshot victims had previous arrest records.
64% had been convicted of a crime.
Each had an average of 11 prior arrests.
63% of victims had criminal histories and 73% of that group knew their assailant.
74% of homicides are during the commission of a felony involve guns.
More than 6,500 law-abiding people a day in the United States defend themselves against criminals. 92% of them without firing a shot.

That is par of the problem, but even tho the shoot in Ferguson was a good shoot, there is a lot of truth in LEO abuse of power. Be they local, County, State or Fed. That city did not riot over one shitbag who got shot by a cop. He just happened to be the straw the broke the camels back. Clearly the actions of the officers in the region (not just that dept.) made the story of an unlawful shoot/murder by police believable. That is not something that happens over night.

That thread shows a CHIEF LEO who gets it & is making efforts to get rid of bad officers who abuse their authority & explains clearly why that is so important.
Just this past march a female cop shot man in the back twice, as he lay in his belly, After she has tazed him. Cause of the interaction? Inspection sticker. DAUPHIN County, PA. How do you think it helps Harrisburg PD that the dept. down the road murdered a black man with his face in the dirt? Thankfully she was charged quickly, & except for Philly, & Swiftwater Cops in PA are not known for being abusive & are generally seen in a positive light.
A long view might have you ask why that is, and one of the reasons was PSP was founded to get rid of the coal & iron police, because of their abuses.
That said: if we got rid of most of our laws, and enforced the just ones with prejudice (including the Death pen.) I think we would have far fewer life time criminals. Our current system is extremely broken.Last edited by PAMedic=F|A=; August 17th, 2015 at 11:08 AM.
