Removal of AR front sight
I just purchased a DPMS from "turboteg" and I would like to remove the front Iron site... And yes... I already did a thread search. So what do I do? drill out the 2 rivets and slide off? is it threaded on too? and when i get it off Is the gas tube attached? does it come out? do i need another tube when i put on say a VLTOR lowpro gas block?
Thank you,

Re: Removal of AR front sight
the gas block/sight tower uses taper pins, which gently taper from one end to the other.
not rivets.
you do the following:
oil up the front of the barrel and remove any flashhiders or washers from the muzzle
use a PUNCH and a hammer to punch the taper pins out of the front sight tower, frfom right to left (look for which side of the pin is smaller to make sure)
carefully slide the front sight tower off the front of the barrel, you may need to twist or use some light hammer taps (oil/grease on the front will help prevent scratches to the finish.
using a very small punch, remove the gas tube pin, and pull gas tube out of tower.
install new gas block, affix whatever whay they describe, and install old gas tube.

Can not and anything else to JayBells explanation, that's all there is to it. Just make sure you are driving the pins out the correct way (from small side to large).

yep, everything they mentioned on here is correct. did some research and it looks like on that front site you just tap out the pins on the bottom, i think from left to right, but dont hold me to it. I found a good DIY link, I'll see if i can find it again and send it to you.

Everything that has been mentioned so far is correct, but I would also like to add that it does help if you add some Kroil or other penetrating oil to the taper pins, joint where flash hider & barrel meet, and the gas tube roll pin to make them come out a little easier. I usually apply the oil the night before and let it soak in. It make the job a lot easier
