Gunsmith/FFL that can move a serial number?
I have a competition gun that I'd like to lighten by having about an inch of the dustcover chopped off. The problem is that the serial number (which is also on the slide and barrel) is out at the end of the dustcover. People in other states with this particular gun have shortened the dustcover and have had a gunsmith/FFL move the serial number further back on the frame.
Does anyone know if there is a gunsmith/FFL in the Pittsburgh area that could move a serial number?
Thank you!

What gun is this? So it's not the SN on the receiver, it's the SN on another part that is there for the purpose of matching the piece to the receiver? Like it's as trivial as the SN being on the magazine of a semi-auto? If so, you would just need engraving services, which there is a great resource for in Washington, PA.

This is a CZ Tactical Sport - the serial number is on the barrel, the end of the slide, and the end of the dustcover. You can see it on the end of the dustcover (muzzle end) in this picture) - https://www.google.com/search?q=cz+t...zW340p3JlNM%3A
I am wanting to cut that dustcover back about an inch...others have done it, including CZ Custom in Arizona - I just don't want to send my gun across the country and pay them to do something I can do in ten minutes.

it is not legal to remove or move the serial number on the receiver of a firearm. the one on the barrel and slide do not matter. if you want it lighter maybe have someone mill some slots in the dust cover

Re: Gunsmith/FFL that can move a serial number?
It would be illegal for you or a gunsmith to do it. It has to go to the original manufacturer and even then the BATF might / probably will get involved. I have a feeling these custom guns are cut before they are serial numbered. You might be SOL.
Edit: reread your post. Are you going to shorten the slide and barrel too? I can't see how cutting the thin dustcover will save you much weight. How much weight will you save vs the cost / aggravation?Last edited by Delkal; August 3rd, 2015 at 10:05 PM.

Dustcover will be shortened, slide shortened (but not as much,) barrel threaded for a compensator. Others have done it...but thank you all for the replies.

I'm really not understanding what part you're referring to as the dust cover. As other shave said, the SN on the frame of the handgun can't be altered or moved.
