Leary of doing face to face sale at my house
I'm getting ready to advertise a couple of hunting rifles in my local newspaper. In the ad I'm planning to state that any buyer has to show me their LTCF or else do the transfer at a gun shop (for which I'll pay).
But I'm not too keen on showing a rifle at my house. I don't like outsiders seeing what else I might have and knowing where I live. What do you guys usually do? Going to the local shopping mall lot doesn't sound too good, and meeting in a secluded place doesn't either.

Local Wal-Mart parking lot or similar location. The last two face to face deals I did were at a Wal-Mart and a weis markets. LGS parking lot is a really good choice as well, even if it doesn't require a transfer. I always choose a public place. I would definitely not invite a total stranger to my home to do a deal for a gun, or anything else for that matter. If that's being paranoid, then so be it.

Some police stations have started to offer designated parking spaces specifically for sales to strangers. Might want to check and see if there are any local to you that do that.

I did a FTF deal in the parking lot of a gun shop.

No, you're not paranoid. I've never met with anyone at their house or mine. I have met at banks, Tractor Supply, firehouse, Wawa, grocery stores, Turkey Hill. farmers market, and the Berkshire Mall, to name a few. But not "secluded". I wouldn't want to know where someone lived. If they had a burglary after we met, I could be a suspect. No harm in an off-premises rendezvous; everybody would be on neutral turf.

My LGS is in an addition on to a mini-mart and that might just be a good place to do it. I would be a little leary of my local wal-mart. I can envision being immediately surrounded by PSP after someone seeing me showing rifles out of the back of my truck.

Re: Leary of doing face to face sale at my house
i would never have a stranger meet at my house nor would i meet at a strangers house to complete any kind of deal especially one involving firearms. my first choice would be the parking lot of a gunshop because there's less chance of some sheep pissing his/her pants because they caught a glimpse of a gun. i always meet during daylight hours too, nothing after dark or someplace secluded, always in a public place. it's always best to talk to a buyer/seller over the telephone before agreeing to meet, you can tell a awful lot about a person simply by talking to them on the phone. someone that won't give you their phone number so you can talk to them would raise a red flag in my opinion.
