had someone ask me this the other day. He's a fairly intelligent , mostly intellectual nice guy , and basically neutral on the subject of guns (scared of them), but personally doesn't own one. He understands openly carrying was legal , but asked me what I thought about openly carrying a fake gun , like those cell phone guns , saying a criminal would see it and leave him alone. Said he understands the cops don't like it , but if it's legal , how can they stop you.

I simply told him he's good to go until some cop puts his ass on the ground , or a perp sees the fear in his eyes and calls his bluff.

It seems to me your friend has recognized a problem he needs to address. Right now rather than crossing the line he knows he needs to cross he's fishing for alternatives. Why not see if he'd be willing to go on a range trip with you. Show him all the safety features of modern arms, how to safely handle them and we may end up with one more on our side.

He's a good sort , basically a conservative old hippie. Not very mechanically inclined , he's afraid of carrying even a can of pepper spray. Thinks if ya give crooks what they want and don't fight back , they'll just go away.
