registering firearms
Hi everyone, I'm new. I moved to the area a few months ago from NY, and I had a couple of questions. First, I have a shotgun and a pistol that belonged to my dad, that my mom gave me when he started to have them old person moments, like forgetting where he put them. Where do I go to have them transferred to my name? Thanks

I love the reactions from new residents from NY and NJ. Has to be an amazing experience realizing you've escaped from oppression.

Re: registering firearms
Well, I'm not loving it so far, LOL. I moved here for work, and my wife has family in the area. It was here or Allentown. It's weird going to Walmart and seeing assault rifles for sale, LOL. Weird but cool.

Re: registering firearms
They only call them "assault rifles" in New York.
Here, they're just guns.Galations 6:9...And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.

Re: registering firearms
LOL...alright alright. Y'all know what I meant though. I have another question, though. If you don't register guns here, what do you do if something happens to them? Like, say I'm at work, and someone robs my spot. They take my TV, my stereo, my Xbox, and my guns. I have the serial numbers for everything written down, for insurance, should I do that with the guns too? If they get stolen, how would the cops know they were mine?

Re: registering firearms
There is no gun registration in Pennsylvania, so you are in theory fine.
What may happen to you, however, is that if you encounter a police officer while armed, they will run your gun through the "database of first sale" that the PSP has/does compile. When your gun fails to come back in this database of first sale, there is a nontrivial chance your gun will be taken from you while you spend ungodly sums of money on an attorney to prove your property actually belongs to you.
So, before you believe that all is happy here in Penn's Woods, just be aware that there are a shit-ton of police departments and DAs who treat this "database of first sale" exactly as other states treat their respective registry.
