    Default Vacation / travel pistol

Sometime this summer my family is taking a vacation. We are driving to another state which is carry friendly.

I'd like some opinions on which pistol I should bring to protect my family and myself. The two options I've narrowed to are: 1) Heckler & Koch P7 2) Makarov PM (.380 auto).

Both are compact. The P7 is a little larger and a little heavier, and it chambers 9mm Luger. The Makarov is slightly smaller, but is only 380auto. Both are 8+1 capacity. Both guns are stone cold reliable.

    Any advice or thoughts?

    Thanks

Which do you carry normally? Which one in the most comfortable to carry? Do you carry a spare mag? Which one is easier to carry?

P7 gets carried more often. But the Mak is a little more convenient, and it gets carried sometimes too. I always carry a spare mag or a speed strip (for revolvers).

The MAK is easier to carry/conceal, the P7 is easier to shoot (better sights, single action trigger).

    I'd go with the P7.

The MAK weighs a shit ton of bricks for all that it shoots. ...might as well be carrying a 9mm Para if you're gonna carry that much weight.

That's a good point. While the Mak is lighter by a few ounces, the P7 offers a lot more without a lot of additional bulk.

Sounds like it may be time for another pistol.
    Ruger lc9 perhaps?
Wouldn't that fit the bill nicely.
    I can't choose. I don't know what you'll be doing or how'll you'll be dressing.
    Heck why not take both.
    Then you have a choice....................
They are small and won't take up much space.
