What do you shoot .22 short out of?
I hope everyone had a nice Independence day weekend.
Mine went well especially since I was given 3000 rounds of Eley .22 Short Rapid Fire Match ammunition. Woohoo!
Since I only own a Marlin Model 60 and a S&W 2206 it appears that I don't have anything truly dedicated for this type of ammo.
Do any of you shoot .22 short? If so what is your choice of firearm?
Any help or advice as always is really appreciated,
Thx,
Kobsw

Re: What do you shoot .22 short out of?
I shoot a shitload of shorts.
I shoot them out of all my .22's. A Marlin 60(doesn't cycle), a Taurus model 62(a Winny 62 knockoff), a IJ 55A Target(revolver), a H&R Sportsman, a Lienad derringer (.22LR top, .45Colt/.410 under), and the kid's Rossi Youth rifle.
I do tend to stick with the Iver Johnson though for most of my .22Short shooting around the house. ...pest control and basement plinking. The borough doesn't technically prohibit hunting/shooting in town with any ordinances, but with the shorts it doesn't have the neighbors calling the police. Nobody outside the house can hear them from my basement. In my basement I do stick with the hollow points to help with ricochets. The solids do tend to bounce a bit more than the HP's. Yes, I am using a bullet trap, but there is always that one bullet that wants to do its own thing.
Back when PA law allowed using guns to take frogs we used to use .22shorts for them when they were out of the water. (back then F&B regs only prohibited shooting frogs IN the water, then they changed to rimfire shot cartridges before completely eliminating the shooting of frogs)
The .22Short is what I shoot the most of these days. I never go to the range anymore, and once in a blue moon do I go to the farm or relative's land to target shoot. ...so, pest control and basement plinking is about all I can do.RIP: SFN, 1861, twoeggsup, Lambo, jamesjo, JayBell, 32 Magnum, Pro2A, mrwildroot, dregan, Frenchy, Fragger, ungawa, Mtn Jack, Grapeshot, R.W.J., PennsyPlinker, Statkowski, Deanimator, roland, aubie515

I shoot 22 shorts from my Marlin Golden 39A vintage 1958. Fun shooting gun and still extremely accurate.

I've only ever picked up a box of .22 short for the novelty. Both shot well out of my Marlin/Glenfield Model 25 & High Standard Sentinel.

Re: What do you shoot .22 short out of?
When I was a kid of 12 like in 1949 My folks bought me a Marlin 80DL, a bolt-action .22 short-long-long rifle. The thinking in those days was, firing shorts would erode the chamber short of the lands, ruining it, and longs were ballistically unbalanced. Thus, shorts were avoided and longs pretty much became no longer available. Some rifles were chambered for shorts only (like pump-action "gallery guns"). They can still be found, but bring high prices as they become more and more scarce. It may be that Rossi or Uberti make them for shorts, or would might be willing to chamber one. It is also possible that a short can be fired with no ill effects in a LR chamber and the concern was unfounded.
