Re: How long does it take to chop a barrel?!
Lol yes, apparently when you tell the gunsmith to cut and crown, it means to use a hacksaw. Needless to say, I will be calling tomorrow to speak to the manager.

This doubles as a can mount? I'd count on baffle strikes.

Yep, that's pretty much how I feel about it. There's no way that I would trust this with my silencer mounted. I'm calling the shop manager tomorrow, so we'll see what happens.

Re: How long does it take to chop a barrel?!
I just received an email from the shop. They are sending me a check to refund the $150 service I paid for. I replied, asking if they will also cover the cost of the tax stamp or new barrel (whichever is cheaper) if the barrel can't be repaired and stay over 16"
It may seem greedy of me, but the money they're refunding is to cover the cost of having to pay someone else to do it... He still screwed up my barrel, shouldn't that fall on them if I have to buy a new one or cut it shorter? Either way, I guess getting my money back is better than nothing...

You should have complained on the spot after seeing the obvious shitty job he did on your AK and you should have with held payment. For the record, which outfit did this "work" ? It would be good to know who they are for those of us in the Pittsburgh area, so that we do not make the mistake of going there.

Re: How long does it take to chop a barrel?!
I agree. I didn't have a light to look inside the flashider, so I couldn't tell about the crown. I also have a feeling that if I didn't pay them, they wouldn't have let me leave with my weapon. $1,000 into this gun is worth the chance at losing $150. The "weld" was pretty obviously screwed, but I figured it wasn't that big of a deal and I could just file it down. It wasn't until I got home and got the borelight out that I saw the hack job. It was done by Pittsburgh Tactical, and although they refunded my money, it still wasted 3 weeks of my time and cost me $50 more that they DIDN'T pay me for because someone had to fix their mistakes. Luckily, the threads were concentric, and the other guy just had to clean up the crown, then clean the threads and cut them a bit longer. All is well now, but I'll never go back to that shop.

That's what happens when you hire Ash to cut down your shotgun.
Rules are written in the stone,
Break the rules and you get no bones,
all you get is ridicule, laughter,
and a trip to the house of pain.
