suppressed glock light primer strikes
Firearm:
Factory glock gen 2 G23 lower, factory BRAND NEW gen 3 G23 factory threaded upper
BRAND NEW Octane45HD suppressor
Ammo:
Factory loaded .40 Herters 180gr
re-load Freedom Munitions .40 180gr
I fired about 200 rds and had a fail to fire 1 in 10rds, I fired another 300 rds today and had about 4 fail to fire in 300rds. I made certain not to limp wrist it. I notice the fail to fire the pin is striking very off center.
It seems to be having less fail to fire the more rounds through it. I wonder if the upper or suppressor spring just needs to get broken in. Thoughts???
Fired spent casings:
Fail to fire:

Re: suppressed glock light primer strikes
Suppression has no bearing on your strikes unless your striker channel is dirty. Hose out the upper with Zippo lighter fluid and keep oil off the the striker assembly. If that doesn't work, replace the striker spring.

Re: suppressed glock light primer strikes
Have seen some problems with the primers used in herters (s&b) with some other pistols but never a glock. I can't think of why a can would effect the striker...
Clean it up good and try again tomorrow.Montani Semper Liberi

Re: suppressed glock light primer strikes
Your slide or barrel is not going into full lock up. You have off center firing pin strikes. Check for what is impeding the slide or barrel. Also you may need a new or stronger recoil spring.

Re: suppressed glock light primer strikes
clean and lube your suppressor, the "piston" may be dragging preventing full lock up and causing the offset primer hits and possible OOB

Re: suppressed glock light primer strikes
Thanks guys! I was thinking the suppressor was preventing full lockup. I was thinking a stromger recoil spring. I blasted the firing pin channel and cleaned the pin real well. I also think some break in os necessary.

Re: suppressed glock light primer strikes
Herters is S&B. There is a lot of talk about their primers being hard. Also, as someone else suggested, the primers are not being hit in the middle indicative of slide not in battery. You've got parts swapped around on that gun and it has a suppressor, which Lycan says has no bearing on the slide going into battery, and that is correct. I'd start with a new RSA and a new 'firing pin spring', with a bigger emphasis on the RSA.
It's not going into battery. It's over being broke in, besides, a Glock runs out of the box.Last edited by harold63; June 28th, 2015 at 08:05 PM.
BCM and Glock...for a bigger pile of 'cold dead hands' brass.

It's possible she's not going fully into battery with the swapping around of the uppers. Does the new upper have a lighter recoil spring? Is it a tighter fit? How dirty is the chamber?
