    Default New shotgun recommendation?

    Hey guys,

I'm in the market for a new semi auto 12 gauge. Budget no more than 1000.00. I hunt pheasant/chukar at local preserves a few times a year, and shoot clays a few times a year, so I don't need anything fancy. Just want a solid SA at a decent price. I prefer gas for the recoil reduction properties. I've been looking at the Beretta Outlander. Any other suggestions? Thanks guys!

CZ (Huglu) has some nice autoloaders for the money.

Can't go wrong with a Franchi though either.

I have a Mossberg 930 that I really like. It's way under your budget so there may be better available but I like it.

I'd get a Remington 1187 and still have plenty left for ammo.

The 1187 is a nice solid gun. The 1100 has a little fancier accoutrements, nicer wood, a little higher grade of polishing and some choices on types. I have both and use both for different things. I have synthetic stock SP 1187 for Turkey and Goose. I have an 1100 Special Field for hunting upland birds. The 1187 is a little heavier, it's got a milled receiver and is indestructible. The 1100 is a little lighter and just a tad fancier and more suited to the field. I never had a single failure of any kind with either gun but the 1100 has had thousands of rounds through it as opposed to hundreds through the 1187.

In gas I'd say there's none done better right now than the Beretta and a new one out of the box is a sure bet. 930's are good if you get a good one--I've seen some misbehave at matches lately but others run very well. I love my Remington 1100 but wouldn't buy one made by them today until they get their QC back up to par; a used one from the 90's I'd buy though.

Good luck finding one under $1000...

I'll second the Huglu shotguns. I've got a CZ 912 with a bunch of upgrades. Shoots like a Beretta A400, half the price.
I'm only here for the wood c-rings.
