    Default Shorten Stock on AK

I know I'll get all the 'but WHY' questions.

I want to shorten the wood stock on my AK about 3-4". Anyone have experience in the Hanover PA area with this type of modification? Gunsmiths?

Guess I would simply circular saw the stock shorter and shorten the bolt. But I want it to be done right.

The stock length is too long for us to shoot comfortably. Having an adjustable stock would be ideal; However, I truly like the appearance of the wood furniture.

I know people have used AR adjustable stocks and MagPul is coming out with its variants of stocks. They aren't the matching wood.

    Any direction would be appreciated.

Shortening it is the least problematic thing. Getting that cut perfectly perpendicular and making a smaller buttplate will be the harder things, most of which being the buttplate.

honestly, id cut the length off the front of the stock.... that way you will still have a full buttplate and allow you to use a recoil pad if its too short. or if you are really handy split the stock and inlet it to fit over a cheap ar stock

I think USMC3531 has the best idea.

Not sure what you're starting with but 3 to 4" is a LOT to take off. Is the gun Euro, Chicom? Is it milled or stamped receiver?

Thanks for all the quick replies!

    I have a Zestava npap.

For the record, I also shoot my ARs with a closed adjustable stock. It just feels comfortable and most controllable. I don't like the extended, over-reaching, stretching techniques used by others. Same with my shotguns.

Ooohh, I'm definitely not 'handy/crafty' when it comes to customizing or creating a new design. I'd like the final stock to look clean and original. Just shorter and function as a normal stock should.

    Thanks!

probably hard to tell in this picture.. but I used a warsaw length stock which is already short.. and then shortened it some more.. sanded it.. and just put the butt plate back on.. this was an AK that I made for my fiancé that is pretty short..
