    Default 2015 groundhog thread

Made my first trip out for 2015, seen 4 killed one.

I let the girlfriend shoot at the first one twice the second one was too far for the longbow (rifle left with her across the field) and she missed one at 10yds not sure how....

We get ready to leave and I spot one making a break for his hole, went prone waited for him to stop and let one rip. Boom..... Pop.

My first one of the year is down

Peace is that brief glorious moment in history when everybody stands around reloading.

Im glad to see a groundhog hunting thread here! My wife and i really enjoy hunting the hogs. Right now im using a winchester model 70 varmint edition 26" barrel 243. I got sierra 85gr hpbt bullets with various brass and 35gr of 4064 to work very well and that will be my go to load for the season. 17 right now with a couple around 380 yards laser confirmed. The further _the better, shooting ground hogs at long range is how i got started in F class shooting

My wife shoots a custom built 22 250. Her and that rifle make an awesome team.
The second pic is one i shot in the neck at 324 yards with my 243. First one us at 313 yards all laser confirmed

This is the 22 250 with my reloads at 388 yards across a small valley to the creek on the other side

Of to a good start: one for one with a single round of .22 mag at 115 yds. After two years of going after them pretty hard here on the farm there are very few this year, thank goodness!

Up to two more 75yd ccenter mess shot(big splat) the second was a 150yd hheadshot, both were with a 26" 308 pushing 110gr nosler varmegeddons.

I believe the girlfriend hit one this time, after the shot she said it crawled back to the hole very slowly. No blood or hair that I seen but that particular load usually doesn't leave an exit.... She's getting closer to having her picture with one.

OH GOOD LORD ! ! ! This is the beginning of shootin' the ground grizzly season, woodchuck, GOPHER POONTANG, Freeze Gopher and I am a observer.

I came out of my hip replacement on 4/1 without any complications except all of the precautions ; don't do this, don't do that. It is friggin' endless.

I did get one with a world class 60 yard shot----OH GOOD LORD ! !

At one of my farms my wife set up a table to shoot off and a chair. Up pops one. With us screwing around the chuck just kept looking at us. Clank, Bam, Cough, Ouch. Dearest wife this will never work.

She says look, "the groundhog is still looking at us. Don't shoot until I get in the truck and leave. I'll be back at 6PM"-- This friggin' thing is suicidal.

Up comes my .204. Should I turn it up to 40 power ??? Yeah right !!

Pull hammer back, squeeze and follow through. A DULL THUD. I never loaded the single shooter. GOOD LORD WHY ME ????

Break open, slide one in----YUP still lookin' at me-----Squeeze and a BOOM.

Sorry no pic it never happened---Right A5.

Last year I got 63 or 64. Gotta' lot of catchin' up to do.

Damn hip, why could you not wait until I was 84.

I've got an enormous one that has been running around for about 2 years. He's very savvy and has all his exit routes figured out. I thought about getting a licence but I'll let him live as long as he stays away from the house.
