City employee arrested for illegally carrying a firearm into sheriff facility
PITTSBURGH —Police arrested a city of Pittsburgh employee Tuesday for illegally possessing a firearm after they say he carried the gun into a sheriff facility demanding a firearm's carry license.
In a release from Chief Deputy Kevin Kraus, police say Pierre Perkins, 25, or Carnegie, drove a city of Pittsburgh Public Works truck to the Allegheny County Courthouse. He walked into the Firearms License Office and held up paperwork demanding a firearm's carry license. The deputy behind the counter could not identify the paperwork because Perkins never came close enough to the counter.
According to the release, Perkins was in possession of an exposed semi-automatic pistol and did not have the authorized paperwork to obtain a license to carry concealed.
An office clerk gave Perkins the correct paperwork and he sat down to fill it out.
Perkins was overheard saying he carries his gun because he doesn't like cops, the release says. Another customer who overheard this, wrote a note to the deputy because she was afraid. The deputy then summoned additional deputies to respond to the area. Before the backup arrived, Perkins left the office, ran to his truck, still in possession of the firearm and drive off.
After reviewing surveillance footage, deputies learned of Perkins' identity and verified his employment with the City of Pittsburgh. The release only says he works in a Strip District facility. and that Perkins had just previously left work 45 earlier than scheduled.
Police verified that Perkins did not possess a valid license to carry a concealed firearm in Pennsylvania.
Perkins arrived at the Allegheny Courthouse at 2:30 p.m. after hearing that Sheriff deputies were looking for him. He was detained for questioning and stated that he abandoned the firearm in the rear toilet tank in the public restroom at the Jimmy Johns sandwich shop on Grant Street.
Deputies recovered a Smith & Wesson 9 mm semi-automatic pistol from the toilet tank.
State law requires that one possess a license to carry a holstered firearm on one's person in a vehicle. Perkins was charged with illegally carrying a concealed firearm in a motor vehicle without a license and one count of recklessly endangering another person.
According to the release, Perkins may face additional charges stemming from this incident.
Perkins is in the Allegheny County Jail awaiting arraignment.Jimmy cracked corn and HE didn't care! Why should I?

Re: City employee arrested for illegally carrying a firearm into sheriff facility
Well, as of this morning, all they're charging him with is Reckless Endangerment (M2) and carrying without an LTCF (F3).

Looking at his case history, it appears that driving and parking are not his strong points.
It would be interesting to see how he'll be able to keep his job since I seriously doubt his employer allows carrying on the job.

All those vehicular infractions and he was still allowed to drive a city vehicle? I've worked in places where if you had a recent ticket in your personal vehicle you weren't allowed to drive a company car. If you got a ticket in a company car you were terminated. I'm sure the union will fight any punishment this guy gets from the city for his obvious failure to understand the law.

Gee, maybe he hit on a new strategy for getting a permit in "may issue" states - demonstrate the need for a permit by carrying into the office. Brilliant!

Isn't the firearms license office behind the security checkpoint at the courthouse? How did he get the firearm past security, did he use an entrance only accessible to city employees? Why isn't he being charged with carrying in a court house? It seems there's a lot of fail going on here.

I'll give him an A+ for his effort. Dumbass. As far as his driving goes, talk to his union rep.

No checkpoint if you don't enter through the building and go thru the detector -you can walk through and out the back doors of the main building or just go around as there is another way in off another street, where you are outside until entering that separate building.
