I went to a Nic tobacco store. They sold me one.
I did go to a post office in a strip mall , they said I had to go to the post office downtown for a money order as they no longer can sell them.
I guess they do not want cash laying around at the sheriff's office.
Seems someone from the sheriff's office may be tempted.
And they say they had many bad checks from people.
Who writes a bad check to the sheriff's office , that seems like a rather stupid thing to do.
Human stupidity is boundless. I read the Police Log and Court Sentencing in the daily newspaper and I'm always amazed at some of the entries I see.
I wish I had saved some of them to scan or photograph to post so everyone knows I'm not making these up.
I've seen where people have posted bail, paid fines or restitution with bad checks, not too long ago someone paid a fine with cash, . . that was marked with red die from a bank robbery, more than once I've seen incidents listed where defendants couldn't be sentenced for their D.U.I. violations because they showed up in court drunk. (They got more charges added if I remember correctly, Contempt of Court being among them.)
And those are just a few that come to mind without trying hard to remember them.

I don't have a short temper, I just have a quick reaction to bullshit.

Oh , I know they do these kinds of things.
    You'd just think "they wouldn't".

He took the woman to court where she told the judge that she needed to buy a birthday present for her boyfriend and figured that she'd have the money by the time the matter went to court. The judge said, "You don't use my courtroom like that" and sent her to jail.

I've written more than a few rubber checks. Usually because I had an subtraction error in my check register. However, my bank has always covered my NSF checks. You really have to be a bad risk if your bank won't cover you for a couple days.

    Depends on the bank.

I've never heard of a Post Office that didn't sell money orders. Was this a real post office, or a USPS contracted vendor offering USPS services? The two tiny Post Offices near my home both sold money orders.

I'd assume it to be a USPS contracted vendor , since it resides in the same building/room as a private business.
They said they used to be able to sell money orders.
Didn't ask why not any longer.
They also said they don't ship internationally "packages".
    But they have stamps........

Had to renew my permit last March. So, like everybody else who has one, I rolled in with the filled out application and checkbook and cash in hand, and was told "No cash or Check". Then it dawned on me, not too long ago they had money disappear in the sheriffs office and other shenanigans and I think somebody ended up getting fired if i remember correctly (office worker). So, no more cash or checks for us. Sad.

So like everybody else, I had to walk my happy ass down to the post office and as soon as I said I needed a money order for $ (can't remember specific amount now) the guy at the USPS counter said "Let me guess, you are renewing your permit?"

    "yup".

So I walked my happy ass back to the court house, back through fraking security again, and up to the new office (Yup, made the mistake of going to the basement where it used to be, during my first attempt at this).

Then I handed the lady the money order. This shit is getting old.

A government office that doesn't take cash?

I believe the only way that I can pay is with cash.
