Can Now Handle NFA items
I'm thinking of adding the SOT 3 to my license that would give me the authority to handle NFA firearms (SBR's, SBS's, Suppressors, machine guns). Just not sure yet due to the cost ($500 per year) versus the possible market in this area (will I make enough to cover the yearly tax).
Your thoughts Valley of the Susquehanna Area (or anyone else that may use my services)?Last edited by Xringshooter; July 5th, 2015 at 07:10 PM.

Re: Contemplating Handling NFA items
I thought about a suppressor, and within an hour radius of state college there are a few dealers to shop. So given the cost, and limited market, I would be afraid to compete.

Re: Contemplating Handling NFA items
If you build it they will come.
$500 per year isn't really a huge expense for most businesses. I understand that many small dealers work out of their homes or don't carry a huge inventory, so $500 might be a bigger stretch. Maybe you try it for a year or two & if you can't recoup your costs, it was only $500? If you can move one item a month, does that cover the additional cost & hassle of the license?
On edit: Also, the license allows you to purchase "sample" full auto weapons at a more reasonable cost, right? Heck, if you can sell a couple of class 3 items to help offset the cost of the license, then it might be worth it just for the fun factor.Last edited by theunrulychef; April 1st, 2015 at 03:00 PM.

What do you think your fee structure will be for NFA transfers?

Re: Contemplating Handling NFA items
I assume you mean that you will be buying from a dealer somewhere else, them completing their part of the Form 4 and mailing the Form 4 to you to finish and when the tax stamp is received, have them ship it to me to transfer to you? If so, I'm not sure yet . I am still doing my homework on some of the ways things work with Class III items but I think it will be fair amount. Once I figure it out, I'll post a fee schedule.
Thanks for bringing that up, I hadn't thought that far, more concentrating on the ordering of Class III stuff for customers.Ron USAF Ret E-8 FFL01/SOT3 NRA Benefactor Member

Are you going to be able to engrave for SBR?

Yasu, I will look into that to see what the cost of an engraver that will meet BATFE rules will cost. If feasible, I'll do it. For right now (well, come July) I'll be concentrating on Suppressors, SBR's and SBS's.

Re: Contemplating Handling NFA items
I'm glad to see the NFA market expanding. I'm thinking about getting a can, and you are in the right area.

Re: Contemplating Handling NFA items
At this point in time (1 July):
If you buy a suppressor from me there will not be any transfer fee (other than what you have to pay the BATFE to get the tax stamp).
If you order a suppressor from another dealer within PA, they will probably want you to travel to their location to do everything, but they can transfer it to me to have it transferred. You would pay them for the suppressor and then they do a no tax transfer to me to finish everything up and once approved, you pick the item you bought from me.
If you order from a dealer outside of PA, again, you will pay them for the item and they will do the transfer to me and I'll do the paperwork to give to you to do the rest. Once it is approved, you will pick up the item from me.
For either of these two cases, my fee, will be $75. It may go up or down after I see how things go. I'm going to try to keep it as low as possible.
I am in the process of talking to several distributors of suppressors and hope to be able to lock in a firm with a good selection of them prior to 1 July. At first, I will probably not have any in stock other than a couple of demo units. As time progresses, I'm hoping to carry a small stock of the most asked for items.Ron USAF Ret E-8 FFL01/SOT3 NRA Benefactor Member
