Question Mossberg 590a1 mag tube extension problems….

I recently got a decent deal on a very good condition used 590a1 with a 18.5 inch barrel. In all my wisdom, I decided to spend the ducats on a +1 extension from Nordic Components. Everything on their end works as it should but my follower is hanging up about 7/8 of the way up the tube. If I use the extension, the mag follower gets stuck and the shells have no rearward force to load properly into the action….

    Any thoughts?

The tube doesn't look bent. I can't get the follower out to replace, with, say, a plastic one. And, I don't wanna take a $40 hit and not use the extension ( I already trimmed the spring, as in the instructions). Think I should just mangle up the current Mossberg follower and replace? Should I try to mess with the mag tube? Any other ideas??

I'm not familiar with the 590, but 500 series can't take any extension, while the Rem 870 can, but often has dimples at the front end of the tube. The dimples require the follower to be twisted to line up 2 slots with the dimples, and have to be peened out to install an extension.

Any chance you've got the dimples?

No dimples. I drilled out the ones on my 870 to use an extension. There is a spring retainer on the end of the magazine, but that was removed no problem....

    Thanks anyway!

What follower are you using? The mossberg factory follower is rubbish. I use a Nordic components follower. It's longer so it passes the gap between the extension and regular tube without getting caught. 7/8 of the way into the tube sounds like the extension gap to me.

Mossberg tin can metal follower. It dosent even make it to the end of the tube to start into the extension. I'm planning an order to get an aftermarket follower. Guess I'll stick with the Nordic Component one, considering it should work flawlessly with their mag extension. Cue CC.....

Is there a "best" way to remove the stock follower?

    Thanks.....

Do you have any dummy rounds or snap caps? Is it in the extension or the factory tube? If it's in the factory tube, take the cap off and feed the magazine until it pops out the other end. You can take the cap off the Nordic tube and do the same thing.

I have a Mossberg 930 JM that gives me problems from time to time trying to load to capacity. Mossberg uses Nordic as the extension and I have read where folks have used 150 sandpaper to sand down the inner part of the "connection" area as well as both sides of the follower (vs. swapping out for the shady tree fix.) I have to get off my butt and try the fix myself before I use in multi-gun.
