Concealed Carry in University of Penn Hospitals?
I just had a quick question about carrying in a hospital (specifically Univ of Penn). My grandmother has to go in for surgery next week to have her retina reattached, and I was curious if anyone knew the policy for firearms in the Univ of Penn hospitals? I did look at the where you can and can't carry sticky and didn't see anything noted about hospitals. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

No law against it. However im willing to bet that its against the hospital policy. I would just make sure it stays concealed and not worry about.

Re: Concealed Carry in University of Penn Hospitals?
Yep.
If there are signs that I couldn't help but notice while my attention was focused on the health of my loved one, I might leave it in the car. But, I don't go to a hospital with the intention of allowing myself to be a victim. They don't have metal detectors at the door.

Re: Concealed Carry in University of Penn Hospitals?
The University of Pennsylvania has hospitals? I know the University of Pittsburgh does (as in UPMC Magees/Shadyside/Presbyterian/Montessori hospitals), but Pitt is not part of the state-funded university system.
As far as carrying goes, CONCEALED MEANS CONCEALED. Discretion is suggested in a hospital environment, especially in a major metropolitan area.

Re: Concealed Carry in University of Penn Hospitals?
I had a thread about this earlier this week, still on the first page of the threads and easily viewable. Carry in any hospital in PA is legal.

I took a relative to Hamot this past week. ER entrance had security with metal detector, and check purses and bags bought in. There was obvious signage.
Main entrance had no metal detector, but had a security desk, and there was signage there.
While it might not be illegal by law, one would still be trespassing if carrying weapons inside the hospital.

Re: Concealed Carry in University of Penn Hospitals?
I have carried in PennMed at both the main hospital and at the Radnor location. I also carried at Jefferson (Rothman).
I got busted by security when jacket rode up at Radnor. He asked if I was a LEO and I said no and I really felt insecure about leaving it in my dads car since he doesn't have a gun box. That guard allowed me to just cover it and go on my way.
Policy is no firearms.

Re: Concealed Carry in University of Penn Hospitals?
I just went through my 3rd brain surgery at Penn which explains why I haven't been on this site for the past month. I went in unarmed as I was more concerned about my condition than carrying. Didn't watch for appropriate signage. BTW, their hospital is excellent and I've always received great care there. I'm back home now getting therapy for C5 Palsy. As soon as I have more hand strength, I'll resume carrying.
