I'm quite certain there are more users with less than 4100 posts than there are users of 11,500+. Deleting all those with less than 4100 will free up more space.

What about purging any threads in the classifieds that have not been touched in over 1 year? That may not be a bunch of help, but it can't hurt. If you prune attached pictures, that could add up to more than you think.

What other time related stuff can be purged? I'm sure no one cares about the planning thread for a get together that happened in 2009.

Accounts for users that have not been active since {pick a date}?


Theses are the places that I would start looking if it were my database to prune. I'm just throwing out ideas guys. Remember what you paid for them .

The real problem is actually all the uploaded attachments. The table that holds them is like 10gb so making schema changes to it takes hours per change, and there's like 10 changes.

Hopefully the vBulletin people can give me something clever.

My plan is to do this without purging any data for now and users/posts don't seem to be the problem, it's all the images/files that have been uploaded as attachments.

We'll see what happens, but for now it's nothing that anyone else needs to worry about, I just wanted to keep everyone posted on the progress.
