"Night table" .45
It's time to retire my Colt Combat Commander and get a new "home defense" weapon. I'd like to stay with .45 cal. but increase capacity. I'm leaning towards 1911 style but I'm open to almost any suggestion. Does anyone have any ideas/suggestions? Weight and size don't matter since it won't be a carry piece. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

My vote would go to the Para-Ordinance P12. You're already familiar with the operation (It's a double-stack 1911), it's still a .45, but you've got 12 rounds of truth, justice, and the American way in the mag instead of 7 or 8....big improvement.
Or, of course, a Glock 21 or 21SF. same deal- 12 rounds of .45 in the mag, but no safety to worry about.VMJade
Political Correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.

My vote goes for the M & P .45! I have one and its a awesome sidearm! Holds ten, has excellent pointability, ergonomic grips that fit your hand, recoil is directly back into one's hand, has Trijicon night sights, and if you can't get the job done with the ten it holds, you should have brought a rifle or shotgun.

I like my XD45, it holds 13+1. I think the grip angle on it is a little closer to a 1911 than the glock is. I think all the pistols mentioned so far are very reliable, and will probably serve you well.
