Clairton Sportsman Club vs. Carrick Sportsman Club
Looking to join one of the clubs. Both are close enough as I'm in Whitehall. Mostly shoot pistols. Any thoughts?

Re: Clairton Sportsman Club vs. Carrick Sportsman Club
I'm a member at Clairton, don't know anything about Carrick...
I've been a member at Clairton for quite a few years and in my opinion it's a good club. If you shoot on weekdays, you will pretty much have the place to yourself. Even on weekends, I've never seen it really crowded to the point where it became a hassle. I mostly shoot rifle but I know there are pistol leagues if you are interested.
Members are generally very friendly. If you are interested in league shooting, they have been welcoming to me and they are always encouraging people to join. If you have kids, there are some pretty good programs for the youngsters too.
The bar usually opens on Sundays, if I were you I'd take a ride out and check the place out, talk to members etc. Application process is pretty straightforward and I believe there are openings.

The only thing I don't like about Clairton is the range fee you have to pay every time you want to make use of the facilities.

Re: Clairton Sportsman Club vs. Carrick Sportsman Club
it's $1 for members and $5 for non members each visit.
i wish Clairton had a holster rule, i see a lot of guys mis-handleing pistols all the time when going from their truck to the pistol range.
other than that it's a nice range and not very busy at all on the weekdays. on the weekends it's a different story the weekend warriors come out and i usually stay away from the range on the weekends and there is usually multiple confrontations between members due to firearm handling violations.
