Default Positive OC encounter that didn't start that way...

For the first time, I've been "talked to" by a City officer. It was in the Eat 'n Park I'm always in, no less!

They usually have a detail officer on Friday and Saturday nights, to keep an eye on the bar crowd. I came in with 6 friends to have a late snack, and while waiting to be seated, the officer came over and asked me for my LTCF - at first I refused, then he provided justification: he had seen me get out of the car - OK, I'll give him that - I was hungry and didn't want to deal with him at the time. Showed him my LTCF and lazily draped my shirt over the butt of my gun, leaving the rest exposed. After I sat down, I fully uncovered again.

The entire time I was eating, HE was poring over his code book and what looked like departmental memos!

After dinner I went up front to pay, weapon fully exposed, strong side towards him. He glanced, made eye contact, but didn't say anything.

I went out to my car and retrieved one of PA Patriot's fliers, and went back in, handed it to him and we proceeded to have a 15 minute discussion about the legalities of carry, open and concealed. He even learned a few things about reciprocity (He was under the impression that any CCW was valid in PA). He even conceded that OC was in fact legal, and offered no opinions about weather or not I should!!!

We shook hands and parted ways, both smiling!

So I just want to say for all to read here and I am going to mail the commander on Monday:

Thank you Ofc. Savko, City of Pittsburgh, Zone 3! You have renewed my faith in Law Enforcement Officers!

Well done. And kudos to officer Savco for taking the time to check on a non-incident before making it an incident

Only thing I would have added would have been to ask/inform him of how partaking in a licensed activity (OC'ing in a vehicle) was RAS that you were committing a crime Bet he would have been stumped for an answer.

Lots and Lots and Lots and Lots of review and memorization. It also helps to do as much reciting as you can without referencing the hard copy when discussing it - that helps to reinforce the neural pathways that you remember with

Very cool, good job. It was a very nice touch that you went back to give him a flier.

bogey1, I can't remember them all chapter verse either. That's half the reason I carry fliers
If you don't know who your state legislators are go here:

Just wondering if he knew OC was legal before "pouring* over his code book and what looked like departmental memos" or after your talk? Did he say?

    BTW, should be poring over

No, he thought the typical "it's a Concealed Weapons License, so you have to conceal" line... but after he looked over the codes, he obviously changed his mind, and he seemed genuinely appreciative of the info I was able to give him.

    Fixed ^.^ Thanks.
