Re: Ruger SR 556 Carbine
I'm interested to hear what people have to say about it also. I just saw one of these for a pretty good price in a Cabela's ad recently. It had me wondering about them.

Re: Ruger SR 556 Carbine
I shot a friends awhile back it ran alright nothing that made me want to run out and drop $999.00 to $1200.00 on one. Now they have dropped in price it seems like a better deal.
CDNN has a short stroke piston rifle for $799.99 it appears to have Bann state features but that can be changed pretty easily.

Re: Ruger SR 556 Carbine
Early Ruger 556s had issues with the piston or op rod binding, but I believe that's been addressed.
The problem I have with them is that many parts are proprietary to Ruger, and Ruger limits some parts sales to gunsmiths, or factory replacement only.
Not what I want in a potential SHTF rifle.

Re: Ruger SR 556 Carbine
Is there any reason you are focused on this rifle, and not a DI AR-15?

Re: Ruger SR 556 Carbine
I really like my SR556. The factory trigger wasn't what I wanted. It was very heavy (didn't put a Gage on it, just thought it was excessively hard to use when target shooting). A Geissele SSA trigger made the rifle everything I wanted. The piston keeps the upper very clean and has worked flawlessly so far (~1,000 rounds).
Was considering getting the SR762 as well.NRA Life Member. OC is comfy!

Re: Ruger SR 556 Carbine
No experience, but if one is interested in this rifle, one in the classifieds for $900.
