Pistol transport to the range
I'm sure this has been beat to death, but I'm looking for a real world experience solution. I started with a standard range bag, and moved on to this big hard case which just looks absurd going to the range. Now my typical range trip I'm taking usually 5 hand guns, and looking for transport solutions. I looked at those "quick draw" type cases and I just cant justify spending that kind of money on a case. What are you folks using to safely take multiple hand guns to the range? Obviously I'd like room for other range supplies but I'll take 2 bags if I have to.
You may find me dead in a ditch one day. But by God, I'll be lying in a pile of brass.

Use a rifle case. Lots of room.

Re: Pistol transport to the range
I just use a standard one compartment range type bag. I put each pistol in its own light weight container/bag so the metal doesn't come in contact or get scratched. I've been using the dollar store I-tablet cases (for $1 each). They are slightly padded and stop everything from getting scratched. Then throw everything else in with it.
Just make sure your ammo is in a SEPARATE bag or container. As strange as this sounds if an unwrapped /unholstered pistol is in the same bag as a loose stray round of ammo you committed a felony!

Re: Pistol transport to the range
The proximity between firearm and ammo issue only occurs if the ammo is in magazines for the firearm and within the same compartment.
It goes directly to the definition of when the firearm is "loaded":
18 Pa CS 6102"Loaded." A firearm is loaded if the firing chamber, the nondetachable magazine or, in the case of a revolver, any of the chambers of the cylinder contain ammunition capable of being fired. In the case of a firearm which utilizes a detachable magazine, the term shall mean a magazine suitable for use in said firearm which magazine contains such ammunition and has been inserted in the firearm or is in the same container or, where the container has multiple compartments, the same compartment thereof as the firearm. If the magazine is inserted into a pouch, holder, holster or other protective device that provides for a complete and secure enclosure of the ammunition, then the pouch, holder, holster or other protective device shall be deemed to be a separate compartment.Last edited by tl_3237; January 18th, 2015 at 08:33 PM.

That's only if he didn't have a LTCF. If he has a LTCF, he can do whatever wants with a handgun and the ammo for it.
Also, if he's otherwise eligible for a LTCF and isn't comitting any other crimes, it's a misdemeanor of the first degree, not a felony.
Are there exceptions to carrying a firearm without a Pennsylvania License to Carry?
A License to Carry Firearms is issued to carry a firearm concealed on one’s person or in a vehicle within this Commonwealth. Any person who carries a firearm concealed on or about his person except in his place of abode or fixed place of business without a valid and lawfully issued license commits a felony of the third degree.
A person who is otherwise eligible to possess a valid license under this chapter but carries a firearm in any vehicle or any person who carries a firearm concealed on or about his person, except in his place of abode or fixed place of business, without a valid and lawfully issued license and has not committed any other criminal violation commits a misdemeanor of the first degreeThere's no such thing as a free lunch.

I have a LTCF so no worries on that front.

Lots of room for most everything plus your hands are free if you need to carry other stuff. Depending on the size of the pistols, you should easily be able to carry 5 in this. If you carry ammo separately you can even carry a few more pistols in one of the top pockets.

Re: Pistol transport to the range
Here are the dollar tree tablet sleeves I was talking about. They are a lightweight neoprene and come in 2 sizes. One good for for smaller pistols like a Makarov and one good for full sized. They work great and did I say they were only $1! Get some pink ones for your girls / wives firearms to tell them apart.
I might have read about using these here. If it was you let me know and I will REP you. I bought a dozen and they work great! Good for the safe too.

It was me ... http://forum.pafoa.org/pistols-41/25...l-sleeves.html
You can jam quite a few pistols in a standard range bag with these. The bag can get heavy, that's why I went backpack.Last edited by carwash; January 18th, 2015 at 09:08 PM.
