question on springfield 1911
Just picked up a springfield mil spec. Came in a cardboard box, so I am guessing it is an older gun. I have looked all over for an Imbel stamp somewhere and I cant find it. Under the grips, etc. Are some of these completely U.S. made?

Re: question on springfield 1911
I have one mil spec, about two years old, which has the Imbel stamp above the serial number. I think it may be under the grips as well. Another one, about 5 years old, has it on the underside of the dust cover but very visible. If you don't see it anywhere, even with the grips removed, and the cardboard box is original, I would guess it to be US made. I don't know when they switched to the Imbel frames.

Re: question on springfield 1911
I think its one of those most are made in Brazil, but some small numbers of them are USA made.
For instance, below are example of US made SA 1911's, and they aren't old at all...
I've looked at many SA 1911's, and personaly never seen US made one.

Re: question on springfield 1911
It is not the base model. The reason that I think it is the U.S. made is that it is older, and I stripped it down completely and cant find an Imbel stamp anywhere. Even if it was Brazil made I wouldnt care, it is very reliable.
