Need help deciding
If you had somewhere in the ballpark of $500-$600 to spend on a new firearm (rifle, handgun, whatever), what would you buy?
First person that says "save it up and buy ________ for $xxxx.xx" gets cyber throat punched.
Haha, just kidding.
Things I've been looking at: Various rifles in .270 or .308, Ruger SR1911, SR22 and goodies, etc.

Re: Need help deciding
For that limited budget, I'd recommend a pistol over a rifle any day. Reason being, pistols are cheaper to start off. Pistol will come with mag, so only thing you need is ammo and you can shoot.
With a rifle, you will need to buy bases, rings, optics and ammo. Unless you get a cheap packaged rifle deal, it's not realistic with your $600 budget.
As far as what to buy, that's a hard one to answer since we don't know what type of shooting you do and what the purpose of the firearm is for.

Re: Need help deciding
Rifle I would build a M4 clone using a Anderson receiver and a PSA CHF upper.
Anderson Lower: $40.00+transfer
PSA CHF Carbine rifle kit: $499.00
Lower transfer: $10-$30.00
Total build cost: 550-$580.00
Pistol I would go with the CaniK TP9SA.
Pistol: $339.99
Shipping: $15.00
Transfer: $10-$30.00
Total: $365-$385.00
Leaves $215.00-$235.00 to spend on ammo and a nice OWB holster for the range.Last edited by Hodgie; December 18th, 2014 at 11:24 PM.

I want to strike my initial recommendations and 2nd this one and add this one too.

But in all seriousness I would also recommend a WASR or PAP AK rifle as mentioned above both well under $600.00 and with the difference you can grab some ammo and extra mags.

Re: Need help deciding
I've actually been pricing a few combinations similar to your suggested AR15 build. I found a nice upper for about $299, and lowers I would buy I have seen from $149 to $189.. I'm just not sure I want to venture into the AR15 world - thus far I have highly preferred the AK variants.

Re: Need help deciding
What I would buy would be dependent upon 2 things:
1. What other guns I owned.
2. What the primary purpose of the gun was.
I agree with aubie525's post above. Within your price range you are will probably get more value for your money with a handgun.
So I think you need to narrow down the intended use before you can get good advice.
I am about to spend $450 on the new Ruger Lc9s Pro. Ruger has finally modified the gun by removing all the features that highly experienced gun handlers did not like. Like my LC9 it will be the only gun I now own. I carry for self-defense only. That limitation made selection of a gun easy.
