Post SO what the heck is up with Serbu Firearms?

I've wanted a Serbu Super shorty "shotgun" for many years now and within the last 1 to 2 years, I finally have a trust set up with my father and some extra NFA spending money. I looked into getting a super shorty. But I could NOT find any for a good deal (Normal pricing $500-$600). Serbu's website said something along the lines of "we are no longer producing super shorty's and have no plans to in the future." which bummed me out. About 3 or so months ago I was at the Bloomsburg gun show and was looking at Dennis Todd's stand (looking at all the cool and historical stuff that I can't afford) and saw they had a Super shorty. I asked what they were selling it for (Moss 500 version). $950, to which I kinda laughed about it. Then about 2 months ago when I was with my father at Advanced Arms (for the first time) I asked the owner, who's name I can not remember for the life of me, about ordering one in. He actually called Serbu on the spot (no one picked up though) and he left a message asking about their pricing. AMAZING customer service, I was a little disappointed at first due to seeing their website VS. the store. (Kinda gave the vibe they had a lot of mil surp and "one of a kind" / unique guns. but you really cant say much about that because of my assumption) Within that week while at home I got back on Serbu's website and saw their pricing for the super shorty's for OVER a $1,000!

As of right now on their website they have the 870 version listed for- $1,150, a 870 breacher for- $1,250 and the Mossberg 500 for $1,075. (All shipped)

Basically im wondering why they doubled in price and if anyone knows what happened. ETC. Also if there are any other manufactures of AOW shotguns.

    Thank you

Buy either a used Rem 870 or Mossberg 500 - $150-300, possibly less.
File for a Form 1 tax stamp for an SBS - $200
    Hacksaw - $10
    Pistol grip - $10-$30

Yup! Though that would only get you so close. If you're good with a mill you can probably come up with the rest of the mods and parts to go to the 2-shot mag tube and folding shortened slide.

HA! Yes, that's what I though. Why are they so pricey when you can get a beater shotgun for $125-200, Hell even a pardner pump from wallie world, brand new for $187.
That's my back up plan to SBS one.

Honestly I think they cost more because an AOW stamp is $5 (to transfer still $200 to build) when a sbs is $200. so they would cost the same in the end if all new parts were used.

At first I thought why? Now after getting a good look I'm thinking so cool. I like the Rico style vertical swivel fore end. I hear the Miami vice theme music.
