Peace is that brief glorious moment in history when everybody stands around reloading.

Re: My first deer
Congrats on the first one. May the floodgates be opened, and may the excitement never leave you. One comment, and this isn't necessarily a criticism, just a thought.
You mentioned after several paragraphs you chambered a round and flicked off the scope caps. It's your choice of course how safe you want to be. But as someone who doesn't get to spend as much time in the woods as I'd like, someone who's killed quite a few deer in his life and knows how quickly the opportunity can come and go, I feel confident in saying at some point you will miss a nice deer because you weren't prepared for that 5 seconds of opportunity because your chamber was empty. As I said your choice, but I'm betting most of us have one in the pipe as soon as we're safe and legal in the stand. Again, congrats and very good story.

Re: My first deer
Great story. Sounds like you did great for your first deer. Some guys almost puke on thier shoes gutting their first deer. I usually gut the deer and leave the bladder in until I get home. Then I cut the pelvis with a saw and remove the bladder. That way I don't have to worry about accidently cutting it and having it leak all over the meat.
I hope you get another one tomorrow. Good luck.
