I would be willing to contribute a phone call with the OP to discuss the situation and his options. Send me a PM.

I wonder if a letter on that nifty "esquire" letterhead would have the sheriff rethinking this policy.

all you get is ridicule, laughter,
and a trip to the house of pain.

The next time you see the sheriff, you might want to point out the following and his "my name is on the license" stuff:

    18 Pa. C.S. § 6109: Licenses

    (j) Immunity.--A sheriff who complies in good faith with this section shall be immune from liability resulting or arising from the action or misconduct with a firearm committed by any individual to whom a license to carry a firearm has been issued.
It doesn't matter if the oil/gas worker leaves Pennsylvania in two months or two years. As long as the oil/gas worker (or military member, or college student) is living here in Pennsylvania they are a "resident," and, as such, are eligible to apply for a license. As long as the Sheriff dots the t's and crosses the i's (or something like that), he or she is immune from any repercussions.

His one-year requirement is unsupported by state law, and state law says he can't add on his own requirements.

Psalm82, please do this. Phil is a well established attorney who has done work for several members here. He's the real deal.

Is there any language in HB80 that may apply to the sheriff or is that only for municipalities? Count me in for a few bucks if this needs to go to court. If it looks like it's going to go that way someone should probably move this thread to one of the more visible sub-forums.

Tried to rep you for your offer GL but have to spread the love first.

Further, even a non-resident is eligible for a PA LTCF. The UFA contemplates that.
