Re: Carolyn McCarthy, public face of the gun control movement, is leaving Congress
I lived on LI when the Colin ferguson went on his train rampage. He also represented himself in court. It was a major fiasco. The shame is the whole country is becoming a fiasco.
The story is she went to her congressman after the shooting and asked for gun control. He was not really interested in her and she challenged him. Dan Frisa is who she unseated.
She plays the blame game for everything. she is sueing people because of her lung cancer. She has been a smoker for 40 years. Typical liberal. I remember the Long Island Rail Road shooting very well. It becomes very hard to have sympathy for people who have a tragedy like this when they act the way they do after it happens.
I am glad she is retiring but there will be many more to follow in her foot steps.

We were still living on LI at the time too and you're right the trial was a fiasco.
I remember SNL led off one of their shows with a trial skit. Ferguson was a certifiable nut.
I can't find the SNL skit on Youtube to embed but here's link to it on Yahoo

I wouldn't spend too much time gloating. This isn't a victory of any kind; this is just an old lady stepping down after making for herself a very nice retirement at the taxpayer's cost. Furthermore, nature abhors a vacuum; I fear that whoever picks up the baton will be far worse (and possibly far more motivated) than McCarthy has been in the last 10 years.
I never liked McCarthy, but if I had to pick between the devil I know and the devil I don't know, I'd pick the devil I know every time."Political Correctness is just tyranny with manners"

The difference is that she was a 'true believer' because of what her family went through and there is nothing worse than those who are so sure they are right.
