Your Marantz probably would sound better than your 5.1 system.

But are the speakers of yesteryear as equally improved - the "Larger Advent", JBL L25s, Klipschorns, Dahlquists, Bose 901s, even the po-mans Advents - the Dynaco A25s?

Got suckered into one of these new-fangled Blowse 5-speaker Lifestyle home systems; great until the PCB in the head system goes - once bitten, twice shy.
All of my guns are lubed with BACON GREASE.

I wouldn't trade my JBL speakers for any of those new Bose Wave do-dads.

Heck, I had a Zenith console that I bought in 1986 that just gave up the ghost last year. It still delivered a great picture, but the on/off switch broke and I couldn't find a replacement part.

Well since the 5 finger discount involving a rifle is a felony.....I paid with cash.... The TV was a steal...50in HD for $219.00.

Honestly don’t understand exactly what you guys are complaining about. For a reasonable amount of money you can get a fantastic big screen TV and an awesome sound system. Is anybody really missing the old CRT screens with crappy speakers that weighted a ton?

On a side note, PA had three TV Glass manufacturing plants – Pittston, State College and Mount Pleasant. Talk about not understanding their markets: they all believed that flat screens were only going to be for the super-rich and none believed it was a threat to their business. Within just a few years they were all closed.

Heh. Yeah, they used to be affordable by the "super-rich", then the "super-poor" (think HUD housing), and now just about anyone in between can get one.
Eve I could afford one now - if I wanted to.

I don't miss my CRT because I still watch it.
I called to check my ZIP CODE!....DY-NO-MITE!!!

That's only because you can't lift it to get rid of it
