    Default Handgun for Mom

I am looking for a handgun. I had a little Baretta, put could not work the slide. I fell in love with a SIG Mosquito but my son (P-11 Shooter) thinks it might be too big for a carry. I shot about 20 guns at my first group shoot and it was the only gun that I could work start to finish. Any other suggestions for a firearm that is easy and simple to use? Apparently, I don't have the hand strength to work most slides. He did mention revolvers, but thought I also might have trouble with the some of the hammers.

I know a lot of you won't believe this, but I only want one gun. So I want to be able to carry and to use it just for target practice.

    Opinions?

    Ma'am,

My suggestion would be a revolver in .38 Special

There are several good choices available, but I would recommend a Smith & Wesson model 10.

It fires a cartridge powerful enough to fend off an attack, but light enough that it won't beat up your arms.

The DA/SA action (double action/Single action) means that if you don't want to use the hammer, you don't have to- just pull the trigger.

It has a long enough barrel for target practice, but short enough to conceal (in my experience, having carried one from time to time)

It will wear like iron. My grandfather's, which he carried as a reserve police officer from 1946 to 1952, is as reliable now as the day it was made...and he got it used.

That being said, I'd suggest trying one before you buy it- but I'd definitely suggest a .38 special revolver.

Try a Glock 9mm, they are very simple to operate. They are very reliable they will go to hell and back with you firing all the way. The Glock 26 with a Pierce grip extension is a very nice small package with 10 or 12 rounds of 9mm. They also can be had fairly cheap used. I would not have a problem buying a used Glock.

What about a Walther PPK? Have you tried one of those?

I don't know what I shot. I would have to ask my sons what guns I tried out.

Or even the new Walther PPS. If you want to look at the Walther PPK, which is a fantastic gun I might add go for it. There is alos a clone of it made by a company called Bersa. Check out the Bersa .380 thunder, good gun for not a lot of money.

Guys, remember this. The slide that you think is just so easy to operate. A lot of women find hard to work. The kick you think is nothing. A women who doesn't shot much thinks is wild. I learned this from my betterhalf.

That's why I suggested the PPK. I could work my old man's by the time I was about twelve. IIRC the action is fairly easy.

That is why I got away from the 9mm. A .380auto would be a good pistol even my very weak wristed ex wife had no problems with the Bersa .380 thunder. Does anybody know why Glock only sells the 28 to law enforcement?

Thank you, thank you, thank you. Every time my sons handed me a different gun, they said "Here, this one is easy to work." Well may be for men in their 20's. But for a 50 year old woman, it was not easy.

Does anyone else think the SIG Mosquito is too big for a carry?
