Was There Ever a Top Break .38 Special?
I was curious, did any company every manufacture an old top break in .38 Special or was the load a little too much for a top break frame?

I believe Uberti (made) makes them - search the net for specifics.

IIRC, Uberti, Pietta, or Armi San Marco made repro No 3 S&W single-action topbreaks in 38 Spl for a brief time as well as 44-40 and 45 Colt.
Here's a link to a write up on a Uberti repro in 38 Spl:

I can't recall ever seeing an H&A, H&R, IJ, F&W or S&W topbreak in 38 Special. Doesn't mean it wasn't made though.

They were frequently made in .38 S&W but I have not seen an original in .38 Special.

Frenchy, the barrel of that revolver in your post is marked "38 S&W Ctg" -- that's not the 38 Special. S&W revolvers are typically marked "38 S&W Special Ctg." when chambered in the 38 Special.

I think I read somebody is making one or recently made one in .357. I can't remember the source or the manufacturer.

Here is a reference to a .357:

Uberti .38 SPL:

I think the Russian one might have been available at some point in the US. I think you might find something in .357 if you search, I pulled this stuff off the first page of the search engine.
Yes, I know you wanted .38 SPL I was just chiming in.

Anybody else here notice the picture Frenchy posted is fake? The top break also had a cylinder latch: :-)
