Enlightend
I can admit, I have been ignorant of the beating our constitution has been taking. It has just been the last 4 of 5 months that I became interested in my 2nd ammendment rights and now after doing a bunch of research I just wanna scream. Now that I have a family to protect and a desire to excersise my 2nd amendment rights I find that the very act of buying a gun is hampered by unconstitutional laws?"
Two questions.
1. How did things get this bad?
2. What can I do to help?

Re: Enlightend
1. Short answer People to busy with their lives, with bread and circus to pay attention to politics. Most people never read or worse yet never bother to UNDERSTAND their Constitutional rights, it’s the owner manual for the Republic
You can't be free and ignorant at the same time. Someone will take it away from you and your children future.
2. GET PERSONALLY INVOLVED, don't give your money to some group, because you feel guilty that you know should do something to Fight for Freedom. Like parents trying to shower presents on their children because they are to busy making a buck to spend time with them yourself as you should be, don’t get it done. Neither can you pay some to exercise for you, only you can do it for yourself, same goes with having freedom, if you want to keep, you personally have to work at keeping it or someone will take it from you.
Pick a battle front we are being attacked from all side, get educated on your particular subject, give your time, lend support to other peoples issues you also care about, fight at the local, state, national. Get involved in politics, I don’t mean spend 5 minutes every other year at election time, that is the problem we have now. Don't be someone elses cheerleader, with my government right or wrong, is also the dangerous path that many are following right now.
We used to be a nation of free thing leaders working towards common goals, now we are a nation of followers that want someone else to make all of the decisions for us pat us on the head like we are little children, tell us everything will be all right if you let us lead you, its the lure of socialism, the so called "free" lunch, its the big lie of promises you anything but delivers, nothing, or just telling you what you want to hear, the con mans game of control, old school and yet still effective.
We are also controlled through vast media industrial complex with its propaganda outlets, to keep US from having independent thought or thinking for ourselves. Free thought or freedom is a very dangerous concept to many people, look how many people will want to take it from you or don't trust you.
Just read the Open Carry and what most people theory will assume what would happen as an example.
Read enough stories on PAFOA and other places, be honest with yourself by admitting you have been part of the problem, get educated on your subjects, do your own independant research, you will find lots of uncomfortable truths about what WE let happen to this country by our Ignorance, apathy or just plain old laziness.
Then you will become part of the solution, instead of being part of the problem by just joining a group to hopifully save you. That is how this country has gotten into so many problems that it now has, By trusting imperfect people to rule over other imperfect people with promises that WE do not hold them accountable after our 5 minutes every other year at election time.
That is why you read the Constitution now it seems like a foreign, severely comprised document that WE all have allowed it to become.
Hope my short, quick answer where helpful
Welcome to the PAFOA forums BTW

1. I blame reality TV for all that is wrong in the world. It's the devil's work!
2. VOTE. Learn about the people running for office, their stances on issues (not just 2A) and voice your opinion to your family, neighbors, friends and anyone else who cares to discuss with you.

Re: Enlightend
here is part of it:
louis brandeis (who actually did a lot of good things, but also completely destroyed the judicial branch of our government...and, thus, in a way our government).
brandeis wrote a brief in a case before the oregon supreme court that argued that women should not be allowed to work more than 10 hours a day. his brief did not rely on legal reasoning, but rather on statistical "evidence" and conjecture about how women could not handle working more than 10 hours a day.
this was the first time a brief went outside of the realm of legal reasoning and into the realm of sociology. brandeis won and the brief became known as the "brandeis brief" and became a standard model for writing briefs. it marked a point in history where the courts started to view the actual law and constitution as only one consideration which is to be weighed against other considerations (like "compelling interests"). this is where the train went off the tracks and our system of government broke down.
here is a little snippet on the brandeis brief from wikipedia:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brandeis_Brief
shortly thereafter came the new deal...the court at first did the right thing and declared social security and other new deal programs unconstitutional, but then FDR threatened to get congress to add seats to the supreme court which he would fill with new deal-friendly justices. the sitting court gave in and declared his new deal programs constitutional. that pretty much finished the constitution off.
i also highly recommend the book The Dirty Dozen: How Twelve Supreme Court Cases Radically Expanded Government and Eroded Freedom by Robert A. Levy and William Mellor.
http://www.amazon.com/Dirty-Dozen-Ra.../dp/1595230505
the supreme court is terribly broken...and has been for quite awhile. and that is why america today bears very little resemblence to the country outlined in the constitution.
2. What can I do to help?
2. write letters to your congressmen and senators (and state reps) voicing your opposititon to gun control and all other unconstitutional government actions.
3. when voting for president and US senators, take into account what kind of supreme court justices they will or will not appoint/confirm. most people don't even consider this issue, yet there are few things a president does that have a more profound and lasting impact than appointing supreme court justices. when the time comes, make sure you let the president and your senators know about your feelings regarding specific candidates for supreme court appointments.
4. preach this gospel to everyone you know. there are a lot of people out there who are in the same position you were in...they just don't know what is going on and don't realize how off-the-track our government has gotten. try to wake people up.
