Glock Compensated or not?
I am looking to get a glock. What are your personal preferences with the compensated system with the good and the bad?
thanks,

Re: Glock Compensated or not?
I had a compensated G23 with all the aerotek junk upgrades on it.
frankly, it shot no better after the upgrades than before, however it DID have a jet of flame obscuring the target at each shot.
however, I will say, DO NOT practice close range, close to the hip point shooting with a compensated gun.
Jacket particles and powder bits in the chin, and burned shirts are no fun
also, its no fun at night, the comp port flame up is nutz, depending on the caliber and barrel length
compensation was great on my old 1911 that I used for bowling pin matches, but if yer looking for defense, dont bother."Oderint Dum Metuant" - BMFH

Make a list of the positives and negatives and see what you come up with. For a defensive pistol, I can't think of any real positives but there are many that like them.

Re: Glock Compensated or not?
Everyone here has covered it already. It's a bad idea for a defensive pistol (for the exact reasons mentioned). For a sport shooter or a competition gun, I see no real deal-breakers... but I would never carry it. I will say this: I spent a great deal of time with a G23C (factory compensated .40S&W). In my own opinion, the compensator made a tangible difference in flip and recoil (.40 felt closer to 9mm). Of course, that's just a personal assessment. Your experience might not match-up with mine at all.

Re: Glock Compensated or not?
I will add on to the list of people suggesting avoiding the compensated guns. I have a G22C and it just sits in the safe.
God forbid you ever have to use it for self-defense at night, I hope you don't need your night vision afterwards.Dan P, Founder & President, Pennsylvania Firearm Owners Association

Re: Glock Compensated or not?
Yeah compensated pistols are bad for personal defense. In an up close and personal you are going to burn yourself or blind yourself. At night you are gonna blind yourself with a flash coming out of the top of the slide.

Re: Glock Compensated or not?
I gotta disagree...although it may be due to caliber.
I have a Glock 19C which I do carry for SD. The SD ammo is Speer Gold Dot 147 grain.
Personally, I haven't seen the massive "gouts" of fire emanating from the compensation ports even when firing Wolf (which tends to be hot and dirty).
Another firearm I carried for a lot of years was a little Taurus 85 Multi-Alloy. These guns are designed for concealed carry and are compensated. Again, I haven't seen an issue even when using +P .38 Spl. ammunition (Speer Gold Dot again)
Anyway, there's another observation and opinion.
BTW, I wouldn't buy a firearm (for SD) specifically because it was compensated, I just got a really nice deal on a used 19C. As far as the little Taurus, it was the lightest .38 snubby availible when I bought it (about 10 or so years ago).
