Default Organised chaos, lead poisoning, rusty guns..

I know some of you like to laugh at cops, but sometimes, its not the individual on the street that is at fault..

SPVM police (Montreal Quebec) Is presently complaining about faulty (rusty) guns and no place to practice.

The ranges that where in use, had faulty ventilation, lead poisoning was high, most officers on the streets have not practice in over a year.

The firearm in question is the Walther P99 Quick Action, it was estimated it should have a 22 year life span, after only 12 years, the guns might need to be scrapped.

Gun makes fault? Probably not, Montreal officers are not allowed to carry their guns home, they are also not allowed to clean their guns.. the only time the gun comes out of the holster is when they are needed on a call or at the range..

For some reason, Montreal govt thought this would be better.. So police put on their belts, work 8 hours, take off their belts, close their lockers and go home...

All this in the name of "Officer safety" seeing the officer has no access to his sidearm during off hours, he can not "hurt" himself...

As of right now, the only link is in french. But as soon as the English news catch on, I will post their link.

Well, in all honesty Frenchy I don't find that at all surprising! My son is a police armorer/instructor for his department. He's always talking about "mis-cues" among his officers and I've seen local area PDs undergoing "training" at my club range. Lucky for them they had a few good guys from the local Marine Corps League to teach the where's and why fors of the M16 variant they were trying to learn.

Seriously, one of my Nieces is a SWAT for Montreal, when I asked her what her side arm was, she could only say it was black a pistol and held 16 ot 17 bullets.. She never took it out of its holster since she got it over 18 months ago!

I said do you even know if it has a bullet in the tube?

She said, no, rules regulations make it that they can only take the gun out of the holster for emergency use or with the armorer at the range..

    I was dumbfounded.

If she is SWAT, how bad is it for the rank and file? This leaves me speechless, and that is saying a lot!! I can hardly wait for the English version as my French is very limited.

If I understand correctly, some guns failed an x-ray test? They are going to replace them with Glock 19s starting in 2015 running to 2017?

Always considered socialist Canada to be like French cowards but many US cops don't practice much either. You think that fat ass female cop with long fake nails goes to the range? I don’t think so.

Even in the military, good 90 percent of “support arms” can’t shoot. Probably every 3rd GI in combat arms can’t shoot because he belongs to HQ or just plain wuss who got in because of low standards.

I spoke to some cops at PHL airport and they shoot once a year. Sometimes even less often because department did not send them to the range. I think the guy said it takes 15 round to qualify…

Plenty of time I’ve gone to the range only once a month (we had ammo shortage, OK! <-that’s my excuse)

Anyways, socialist aka liberals will always be weak, it’s us, the armed sheep we need to worry about.

This is the problem when politicians are allowed to make policy without input from those doing the work. Those police officers are not remotely prepared to respond with force to an incident. It sounds like it's extremely fortunate that Vickers was in the right place at the right time. Do you know his background beyond RCMP? Is he a shooter?

I'm appalled that a member of a SWAT team isn't shooting at least once a month. Even the most jelly brained politician should understand practice is required to be proficient in anything.

I don't know that Info on Vickers would be public, other than he was RCMP, had Military training as well..
Most RCMP ARE shooters, although in the past, there where non armed RCMP jobs, Dad was weights and measures (RCMP) he was an unarmed agent but quite a shooter.

If i was younger, I would look into getting a building in Montreal to create a proper shooting range and making sure the problem was resolved.

I find it insulting that any police be responsible for my security and not have all the tools to do so. Hell, if a cop was shot in Montreal I would probably be better qualified to use his gun to backup his partner than most Quebeckers.

    Edit to add:
UncleJumbo if you watched the video of the Parliament shooting you probably saw that at first, before the RCMP from the street got inside and a few security service who are always armed, all the officers there searching the building where un armed..

All I can say is, takes big brass balls to go after an active shooter un armed!

If you look at this video, only one armed secret agent is visible..

To me, that is very telling of the brave men who protect at what ever cost our Government..

Harper now wants to arm these men.. I find it hard to believe it took an event like this for the Prime minister to finally wake up!

Even the Royal Canadian Mounted Police have problems. I came across
a youtube video: "The reason why 3 Codiac RCMP members died in Moncton
Shooting June 4, 2014, RCMP member speaks out". It is disturbing how the
rank and file are allegedly Ill Trained and Ill Equiped. Check this youtube
    video out.

Vickers wasn't even armed initially. The gun was locked in his office and he had to retrieve it when the SHTF.
